Grilled Salmon (Friday Special) at Kafana
One of the best salmon dinners I have ever had. #yeg #salmon #yegeats #yegfoodie #foodie #nofilter

Pan Seared Salmon at Blue Plate Diner
I was in the mood for something decadent for lunch prior to heading to a filming assignment, so at Blue Plate Diner I opted for the pan-seared salmon.
I am a fan of salmon in general, but this dish took things up to another level. The salmon was cooked to perfection, seared crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. The seasoning and bed of vegetables (with fork-tender baby potatoes) seemed inspired by the Mediterranean.
This was a dish that was as good to look at as it was to eat. Bravo!

Salmon at Murrieta's
Salmon with potatoes, vegetables, and maple ginger sauce. #yegfood, a photo by raise my voice on Flickr.
I made my debut visit to Murrieta's Bar and Grill this evening. I had one of the sustainable fish dishes on the menu - salmon, to be specific. Salmon is one of my favourite fishes to eat and it has been a while since I have had it for dinner.
I chose the spicy maple ginger sauce (there are three choices, with bearnaise and lime salsa being the other two). I tasted more ginger than maple in the sauce, which gave the meal an Asian flavour. The salmon was perfectly done and fork tender, with just the right proportion of mashed potatoes and vegetables.
Before the meal, I was presented with complimentary focaccia bread. It was unlike any I had before - the bread was a sourdough.
Service was very friendly and reasonably speedy for a Saturday evening. Murrieta's is a very classy Whyte Avenue dining choice.

Breakfast for Lunch: Smoked Salmon Omelette
I visited Artisan Resto-Cafe (10732 82 Avenue) today for the first time in ages. Of course, I was most interested in breakfast items.
The smoked salmon, green onion, and dill omelette was my choice. I was concerned that the green onion and dill would overshadow the smoked salmon in flavour, but I was happy to discover that the ingredients were well-balanced. The smoked salmon was definitely the dominant flavour, with the green onion and dill adding accents.
The "grilled pan bread" was basically toast made in a press, while the roasted potatoes were seasoned chunks that were a tad on the dry side but tasty. The fruit on the side was a nice touch.

Sushi - Avocado and Smoked Salmon
I love sushi of the non-raw fish variety, and when I have a craving it is usually to Ichiban (87 Avenue and 149 Street) where I head.
Avocado is my favourite, and I decided to expand my horizons with a couple of pieces of smoked salmon as well.

Salmon on Noodles at Tokyo Express
Someone once commented to me that Japanese food can never be fast. So perhaps this piece of salmon on stir-fried noodles from Tokyo Express is not authentic, but it is economical and tastes great. And did you know that Tokyo Express is an Edmonton-based restaurant chain? That makes me feel much better about eating there too.

Ichiban Again - Bento Box
I am so glad that Ichiban expanded their hours to include Sunday evenings, because I am strapped for a place to go when I became hungry on my way home today. The only other dining choices in my immediate vicinity were greasy fast food places.
So, without shame I entered Ichiban and sat at a table for one. It was early enough that the supper rush had not begun (it was in full swing when I left, though). I ordered a bento box. Supper menu bento boxes come with miso soup, salad, rice, and your choice of three items. I called my bento creation the "triple teriyaki" because I decided to have teriyaki chicken (an entire breaded breast slicked), beef (tender and moist on a bed of sprouts), and salmon (a filet, still on the skin - salmon skin, when cooked properly, is delicious and full of essential fatty oils).
It is a meal large enough to share and reasonably priced at $18.50. I enjoy eating a variety of foods within one meal, so my love affair with the bento box is surely to continue.
