Prime Rib at Ricky's All Day Grill

Prime rib and trimmings. #yegfood

A post shared by Paula E. Kirman (@livingsanctuary) on

So, the same friend I went for steak dinner with a few nights ago decided he wanted steak again. However, we needed a lower-cost option, so headed to the 170 Street location of Ricky's All Day Grill. Ricky's has Prime Rib available on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, so we decided to take advantage of that. You choose the size - I had the six ounce, which was the smallest option. It was cooked to perfection, but was rather underwhelmed by the flavour. It was actually the sides that made this meal, especially the vegetables and Yorkshire pudding. It was good for the price point, and I noticed others were coming in to order the same thing, but I tend to prefer Ricky's steak sandwich or one of their steak dinners.

Prime Rib at the Rose and Crown

Prime rib #yegfood

Last Thursday I had supper at The Rose and Crown prior to filming a couple of events nearby at City Hall. Thursday, as it turns out, is Prime Rib Special night, and so I ordered that. My rather large slice of meat was cooked to perfection, served with lightly steamed red peppers and cauliflower, a Yorkshire pudding with gravy, and a few potato wedges. I would have preferred mashed potato instead of the wedges, but otherwise this was an economical, satisfying meal for meat-lowers. Seriously: I ran out of sides and still had a substantial amount of meat left.

Prime Rib at Tony Roma's

Prime rib #yegfood

I have had a gift card for Tony Roma's for some time now, and decided to use it over the weekend. After the initial sticker shock of the dinner menu wore off, I opted for the $25 prime rib sinner. My thick slab of meat was cooked to perfection and served with two sides (I opted for mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables) which were also excellent. The prime rib in particular was soft and succulent, with the perfect combination of seasonings.

Prime Rib - Baccarat Casino

Prime Rib by raise my voice
Prime Rib, a photo by raise my voice on Flickr.

It was Prime Rib Monday at the Baccarat Casino. I went for it as my final meal of my shift.

What a slab I got! I think it was larger than the advertised eight ounces. It was thick, tender, and mostly well-done as I specified. Some of the thicker parts were pink, but not running blood, so I was OK with that. I was using the accompanying horseradish and au jus to give the meat and extra kick.

For my sides, I went with the roasted potatoes and vegetables. The vegetables were warmer than those with my lunch and nicely sauteed, but I did not have any real motivation to finish them. The potatoes, on the other hand, were outstanding. It was one potato cut in half, skinned, and roasted to crispiness, while the insides were fluffy.

At $9.50, the Prime Rib dinner was well worth the price and definitely worth a trip to the casino to enjoy.
