Prime Rib at Tony Roma's

Prime rib #yegfood

I have had a gift card for Tony Roma's for some time now, and decided to use it over the weekend. After the initial sticker shock of the dinner menu wore off, I opted for the $25 prime rib sinner. My thick slab of meat was cooked to perfection and served with two sides (I opted for mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables) which were also excellent. The prime rib in particular was soft and succulent, with the perfect combination of seasonings.

Cod and Chips at Tony Roma's

Oh, Tony Roma's, you saved my budget with your lunch specials yet again!

The Cod and Chips was an ample portion featuring two pieces of fish, lots of fries, and coleslaw. The fish was flaky and soft on the inside, while the batter was crispy and tasted to me like a beer batter.

I was surprised the tartar sauce was Kraft served up in a small dish. I generally expect house made tartar sauce in a restaurant. Fortunately, I like Kraft tartar sauce.

Steak Sandwich at Tony Roma's

I really enjoy the value lunch menu at Tony Roma's for two reasons:

1) The prices are right.
2) It changes regularly.

At the Westmount location earlier this week, I went for a steak sandwich. At 6 ounces, it was the perfect size for lunch, also done to perfection. It had a better flavour than a steak I recently had at a steakhouse. The crispy fries, creamy coleslaw, and garlic focaccia rounded the meal out nicely.

It may be a chain, but Tony Roma's is great food and great value.

Raspberry Brownie

So, as if I had not already consumed enough fat and calories, I had dessert at Tony Roma's. Most of their desserts are mini-sized, which I found to be adequate after a meaty meal.

The raspberry brownie was rich and delicious - chocolate brownie slices, vanilla ice cream, and raspberry coulee. You can't really go wrong with that. The ice cream was a bit too frozen - it had ice particles on it - but otherwise the textures blended together well.

Beef Short Rib

When treating someone to supper after a hard day of volunteer work, I usually let the volunteer choose the location. Tonight, he chose Tony Roma's.

I decided to go for the beef short rib. It was a huge bone covered in tender meat that was falling off of it and so soft that I did not even need to use a knife. The roasted vegetables added some colour and tasted nicely done. I opted for fries instead of mashed potatoes.

This was a decadent meal full of fat and flavour.
