The Pho Files: Tofu Noodle Soup at Nhon Hoa
I usually have a banh mi (Vietnamese sub sandwich) at Nhon Hoa (10154 82 Avenue) but for lunch on a busy Saturday I decided to try one of the noodle soups - tofu noodle soup, to be exact.
The price of the bowl was about the same as any pho place, and comparable in portion size. There were a lot of vegetables, noodles, and two kinds of tofu: plain and peppered. The broth was flavourful but a bit heavy on the garlic. It was definitely a satisfying bowl of vegan pho, while a bit on the spicy side (the peppered tofu will really get you!).

Lemongrass Chicken Banh Mi
Vietnamese subs (banh mi) at V Sandwiches may cost a bit more than their competition, but the size and quality of the sandwiches speaks for itself.
I had a lemongrass chicken sub, and it was packed with meat. It also had a lot of cilantro, which really defines the flavour of a banh mi, as far as I am concerned. I held the onions.

Shredded Tofu Sub at Nhon Hoa
I wanted a light lunch on Saturday as I waited for my shift at the Fringe to begin. I headed to Nhon Hoa on 102 Street for a vegetarian banh mi (Vietnamese submarine sandwich). I wanted shredded veggie chicken, but they were out of that, so I had shredded tofu instead.
The tofu was more crumbled than shredded and I was surprised it was cold. I have had the regular tofu sub before, and the protein was hot. The tofu was slightly seasoned and there were also some clear noodles in the sandwich. Of course, my favourite parts are the mayo, cilantro, picked carrots, and the warm, crunchy bread.
At only $4.50, this sandwich was a great value and was actually quite filling.
