Breakfast for Lunch: Hash at De Dutch

Smoked Salmon Hash

I stopped in to De Dutch for a late lunch after doing some filming downtown a few days ago. I had the hash, which features a generous portion of the finely diced hash browns mixed with corn, green peppers, tomatoes, and edam cheese (which I held, with two eggs, a protein of choice, and toast. My soft poached eggs were perfect with this, the runny yolk providing a rich sauce in place of the edam. My smoked salmon blended in with the other flavours, which were dominated by the pepper.

Homemade Tofu at P&L Chinese Restaurant

I attended a special event at P&L (9441 Jasper Avenue) yesterday, which was the first time I had ever been there. A Chinese friend of mine absolutely raves about the food, which I tend to take as a good sign.

I have lately been in a vegetarian state of mind and so decided to go with a green onion cake and the home made tofu. The tofu was simple but one of the best I have ever had: chunks of deep-fried tofu with a dry rub of bell peppers, salt, and spicy pepper. It was flavourful but not overbearing.

Taste of Edmonton 2012: Pepper Steak on Rice from L'Espresso

I've always thought of L'Espresso Cafe as more of a coffee shop than eatery. Their Pepper Steak on Rice is one of the dishes I came back to try.

The combination of sauteed beef, bell peppers, and onions were delectable. The peppers in particular were thoroughly cooked and soft, while retaining their natural flavours. I would have wishes for more beef, but the portion size was decent.
