Two Selections from Molly's Eats

Chickpea curry sandwich from @mollys_eats #yegfood

While at the Edmonton Blues Festival this past weekend, I enjoyed some food from Molly's Eats for the first time. My first treat was a chickpea curry sandwich with mango and cucumber chutneys. The filling was substantial, vegan, and not too spicy. The mango and cucumber gave a delicious freshness, and it was served between two small pieces of naan. This was definitely a "fork sandwich." It was one of the best food truck offerings I have experienced.

The next day, I had a wrap with beef, soy sauce, Japanese mayo, and fresh kale. The tortilla was stuffed to the max with the flavourful braised beef. It was filling and messy to eat. Next time, I will ask for a fork!

Duck Tots from Attila the HUNgry

There are a few food trucks that I have been really wanting to try, and Attila the HUNgry is one of them. I finally tried their famous duck tots during the Chinese Mid-Autumn Lantern Festival last weekend. This was possibly the biggest serving of tater tots I have ever experienced. This was definitely the only serving of tater tots I have ever had that were topped with braised duck breast, lime Sriracha sauce, Hoisin aioli, and a mountain of peanuts. Filling, flavourful, and memorable. Next time I am going to have to bring a small shovel and someone with whom to share.

Taste of Edmonton 2012: Falafel from Drift

The woman in line next to me struck up a conversation, saying that her checking out the falafel from Drift was an experiment, as she was having trouble finding good falafel in Edmonton. I agreed, stating that many falafel I have had, have indeed been "awful."

I certainly hope she found the experiment a success, because I was definitely impressed with the fried chick pea patties. They were fresh and crispy, but what made this dish unique were the pickled red onions and house made tzatziki sauce. Honestly, I could have downed a shooter of that creamy tzatziki. Total win - I want a full sized one soon!

Signature French Fries

French Fry Duet by raise my voice
French Fry Duet, a photo by raise my voice on Flickr.

Molly's Eats was one of the local food trucks feeding hungry people at the Edmonton Earth Day Festival on Sunday.

I decided to try their signature French fry duet - a large portion of both russet and sweet potatoes. The portion was great - I ended up sharing - and the sweet potatoes were perfectly sweet and not too starchy. That is one reason that, while I like sweet potatoes, I don't usually care for them in French fry form. They often don't taste much different than their non-sweet counterparts. But these were definitely distinctive.

The russets too, were tasty and the fries were all well-seasoned. I like my fries a little crispier than these, but it wasn't a huge deal. I would likely try these again at another time when there aren't dozens of people waiting for their food. I think the staff was a little overwhelmed.
