Fish and Chips with Bubble and Squeak at Grandin Fish and Chips

Running around between protests on a cold day requires fried food. Haddock and chips with a side of bubble and squeak. I always wanted to try that ever since I read it was the favourite food of one of The Beatles. Cut up Brussels sprouts fried with onions and potatoes. I’m not a fan of Brussels sprouts but frying them gave them a nutty flavour. I didn’t finish the fries, which had way too much salt on them - will ask the kitchen to go easy on the salt next time. Otherwise, this kept me going for hours. #yeg #yegfood #yegeats #yegfoodie #yegdt #fishandchips

Smoked Salmon Omelette at OEB Breakfast

Finally tried OEB Breakfast yesterday. The smoked salmon omelette was huge, with lots of salmon and top and the eggs absolutely loaded with capers. I often order smoked salmon dishes with capers, and there are maybe six of them. This was a salty delight. The potatoes were super crispy, and I would never have known they were twice fried in duck fat. They did not taste greasy or heavy at all. Fish and Chips at Three Vikings

Fish and chips is one of my favourite comfort foods, and this was one of the best plates I’ve had of it in a while. Three thick, flaky pieces of haddock on a mountain of fries, with coleslaw and tartar sauce. Best of all, it was served by a person who was indeed as jolly and attentive as a recent review stated. In fact, his jolly jocularity made me absolutely joyful. As did this meal. Awesome food and service.

Bloom Cookie Co.

I tried out the new Bloom Cookie Co. retail outlet on 103 Avenue and 124 Street last week. Freshly baked cookies? Standards like chocolate chip and some more exotic varieties? Friendly service? Reasonable prices? Yes, please! I tried a London Fog and chocolate butter cream cookie last week. The London Fog was crispy on the outside, and chewy with a mellow flavour. It's a step up for people who like a plain sugar cookie. The chocolate butter cream was like a certain popular commercial cookie, but better. The chocolate cookies were thick and chewy, with a huge dollop of butter cream in the middle. This was my favourite of the two. I will be back to try more! In the photo I paired my cookies with a macchiato from Credo, which is next door. #yeg #yegfoodie #yegfood #yegeats #cookies #coffee
